What is alignment and how does it affect
your golf swing? Just like the tires on your
car, you must have everything aligned properly
in the set-up to make the golf swing work
properly. If one of the tires is out of alignment
on your car, it would pull to the right or
left. It's the same idea with the golf swing.
The exact type of shot is determined by the
length and loft of the club.
But, the swing
path is determined by the alignment
of your
club and body. When a student
comes to me
with a swing path error (i.e.
a slice) the
first thing I look at is their
set-up. If
the student is aligned too far
to the left
of the target, they will likely
create an
outside-in swing path and hit
a pull or slice.
If someone is aligned too far
to the right
of their target, they will either
hit a push
or hook because of the inside-out
swing path.
