Online Alignment Commentary

All golfers know that low scores come from long, straight, accurate shots. Unfortunately, they are often faced with problems that get in the way of this goal, including hooks, slices, and off-target shots. These problems can be very frustrating and add many strokes to your score. It is important to realize that they are most often caused by poor alignment of the club and body.

This short presentation will first explain how poor alignment causes hooks, slices, and off-target shots. Second, why alignment has been such a difficult and overlooked fundamental. And third, how the new patented technology of Thomas clubs makes alignment easy and produces the longer, straighter, more accurate shots we all desire.

A golf club that is misaligned by just a few degrees will produce a shot that lands many yards to the right or left of the target, even with a perfect swing. To try to compensate for this misalignment, a golfer tends to make adjustments in their swing-path. This is the beginning of a destructive downward spiral, in which the golfer creates a new problem in an attempt to solve an existing one.

Let's look at a golfer who usually aims right of the target. He will tend to swing from outside-to-inside, trying to send the ball more to the left. This swing path puts a slice spin on the ball, causing the shot to go even farther right.

Likewise, a golfer who usually aims left of the target will tend to swing from inside-to-outside, trying to send the ball more to the right. This swing path puts a hook spin on the ball causing the shot to go even farther left.

Why do golfers have trouble with alignment? To address this question, let's look at some characteristics of a traditional golf club:
1. Because the top trailing edge of the club is sloped, it faces about 20 degrees to the right of the target line.
2. The face of the club is sloped as well, creating misleading references.
3. The bottom leading edge of the club is curved and often obstructed from view by the grass and ball.
4. We can see that once the club is set in position, there are no reference points to assist the golfer in correctly aligning his club and body to the target line.

Given these characteristics, it is easy to see why golfers have such difficulty with alignment, and suffer from hooks, slices, or off-target shots.

Golfers are now able to avoid these problems and consistently hit closer to the target, through proper alignment of the club using the patented alignment technology of Thomas Irons and Woods.

To gain the same alignment advantage found on most putters, Thomas Golf has redesigned the top plane of each Iron and Wood to support an alignment indicator that is parallel to the ground and the direction of the clubface.

The alignment technology integrates seamlessly with the 4 fundamental steps of correctly setting up the golf shot.

First, stand behind the ball and visualize a line between your target and the ball.

Next, select a leaf or mark a few feet in front of the ball and on this target line.

Third, address the ball and utilize the effective alignment indicator to aim the club at the selected mark and target.

Now that the club is aimed directly at the target, the golfer can once again utilize the alignment indicator to align his heels, hips and shoulders parallel to the target line.

After following these four easy steps utilizing Thomas alignment technology, you are assured proper aim and alignment every time; producing shots straight to the target with proper spin to carry the ball long.

We hope this presentation has helped you understand the importance of proper alignment for hitting long, straight, accurate shots; and how the technology of Thomas clubs will help you achieve this.
